X, without For You.

Posts, DMs and search stay useful. The algorithmic timeline loses its grip.

The short answer

X keeps steering you back to the algorithmic For You timeline, and there's no setting that makes it stay away for good. Sociano opens X in a controlled in-app view with rules that reduce the For You pull and trending rabbit holes, while DMs, search, posting and the profiles you choose stay available.

How it works

    Download Sociano

    Get Sociano on the App Store. It's free to download on iPhone, and setup takes about a minute.

    Open X inside Sociano

    Sign in through X's official login. Sociano's X rules run during the session, aiming at the algorithmic surfaces while DMs, search and posting stay open.

  3. 3

    Add native-app blocking (optional)

    If muscle memory keeps opening the X app directly, enable Sociano's native app blocking. It uses Apple's Screen Time framework, so the calm route becomes the default one.

Why the Following tab isn't enough

X's For You feed mixes what you follow with an endless supply of engagement bait — outrage, dunks, threads engineered to stay halfway interesting forever. Even if you switch to the Following tab, X routinely resets you back to For You.

Sociano's approach isn't to fight the algorithm — it's to stop landing on it. When the default route goes to the things you actually came for, the feed loses its main advantage: being the first thing you see.

Good to know

Honest status: Instagram and YouTube have the strongest support in Sociano today. X is included and improving over time, and X's frequent site changes mean its behavior keeps being tuned.

As with every platform, Sociano works through controlled web sessions and never modifies the X app itself. Details on the limitations page.

Frequently asked

Can't I just use the Following tab on X?▼
You can, but X regularly defaults back to For You, and trending and recommended content still surround everything. Sociano reduces those surfaces at the session level instead of relying on a setting that doesn't stick.
Can I still post and reply?▼
Yes. Posting, replying and DMs are exactly the flows Sociano aims to preserve.
How strong is X support right now?▼
Honest answer: Instagram and YouTube have the strongest support today. X is included and improving over time — expect it to get tighter with updates.
Does this change the X app on my phone?▼
No. Sociano's rules apply inside Sociano. The native X app is unchanged unless you enable the optional native-app block through Apple Screen Time.
