Stay focused at work — without blocking social media.

For the people whose job lives on the platforms: keep the DMs, posting, search and LinkedIn messaging. Lose the feeds that eat the afternoon.

Updated July 2026

The short answer

If social platforms are part of your job, the standard advice fails you twice: full blocking breaks the work, and open access breaks the focus. The third option is to separate the app into its two halves. Sociano keeps the work surfaces — DMs, LinkedIn messaging, posting, commenting, search, profiles — and removes the drift surfaces: For You feeds, Reels, Explore, suggested posts and autoplay chains. You answer the message without walking past the slot machines.

The professional’s bind: the tool and the trap share an app

Marketers, recruiters, founders, community managers, social-first customer support — for all of them, “just block social media” is advice from someone with a different job. The client reply is in Instagram DMs. The candidate is in LinkedIn messaging. The community lives in a subreddit. The post has to go out at two.

The trouble is architectural: the platforms deliberately house the mailroom inside the casino. To answer one DM you enter through a feed that has spent the morning preparing for your arrival, and the errand that needed ninety seconds costs twenty-five minutes — not once, but every time, because a social-facing role makes that entrance a dozen times a day. Each detour also carries a hidden surcharge: deep work doesn’t resume where it left off, it resumes from a cold start. We’ve written more about this pattern in social media for work, without the scroll.

Where blockers and friction apps fall short here

The usual remedies are built for people who want out of social media, not people who work in it. Hard blockers are all-or-nothing: block Instagram and you’ve blocked the client’s DM along with the Reels. Friction apps add a pause before the app opens, but a pause is exactly what a dozen legitimate work check-ins per day can’t afford, and the feed behind the pause is intact either way. Sociano is built for this gap. Our full comparison is in Sociano vs Screen Time blockers.

To be fair to those tools: if your relationship with social media is personal rather than professional, and what you want is distance, they’re strong choices. This guide is for the person who cannot have distance — only a cleaner room.

Work surfaces vs drift surfaces

Look closely at any platform and it divides into surfaces you visit on purpose and surfaces that visit you. Sociano’s per-platform rules draw the line there:

Kept — the work

  • DMs, including LinkedIn messaging and InMail-style outreach
  • Posting, commenting and replying as your accounts
  • Search, profiles and subscriptions
  • Switching between personal and brand accounts

Removed — the drift

  • For You and algorithmic home feeds
  • Reels, Shorts and Explore-style discovery
  • Suggested posts and recommendation loops
  • Autoplay chains that turn one video into an hour

The platform-specific guides show what each session looks like in practice — LinkedIn without the feed is the one recruiters ask about most, and X without For You matters if your work conversation happens there.

Setting up a workday configuration

  1. 1

    Download Sociano

Get Sociano on the App Store — available by annual subscription at $39.99/year in the U.S.; local App Store pricing varies. Sign in to your platforms through their official web logins; Sociano never sees or stores passwords, and it never modifies the platforms’ own apps.

  2. 2

Route the work platforms through it

Instagram and YouTube have the strongest support; X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit are included and improving. From the first session, entering a platform lands you in the working parts — not the feed.

  3. 3

Batch the check-ins and watch the numbers

Feed-less check-ins are short enough to batch — a sweep at the top of each hour beats grazing all day. Sociano’s daily and 7-day insights show whether the pattern is actually holding, and optional per-platform daily limits add a tripwire for the days it isn’t.

Download on the App Store

Two honest notes. Web views can lack some native-only publishing features — the specifics are on our limitations page, and some teams keep the native app installed for the rare task that needs it. And if your work is on TikTok, Sociano doesn’t cover it; we’d rather say so than sell you the wrong tool.

Frequently asked

Can I run a brand or client account through Sociano?
Yes. You sign in through each platform’s official web login — Sociano never sees or stores passwords — and posting, commenting, DMs, search and account switching work as they do on the web. Some native-only publishing features can be limited in a web view; the honest list is on the limitations page.
Does LinkedIn still work for recruiting without the feed?
Yes — recruiting mostly lives in messaging, search and profiles, and those all stay. What goes is the home feed you were never looking for candidates in anyway. That trade is the whole point: the work surfaces remain, the drift surface doesn’t. See LinkedIn without the feed.
My work is on TikTok — can Sociano help?
Plainly: no. Sociano doesn’t support TikTok. For TikTok-centred work, the honest options are the platform’s own tools plus discipline structures like scheduled sessions. Sociano covers Instagram, YouTube, X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit.
How is this different from just using the websites in a browser?
The websites still serve the feeds — open linkedin.com and the feed is the landing page. Sociano’s per-platform rules remove those surfaces from the session, and add usage insights and optional daily limits so you can see whether your working pattern actually changed.
