Credit where it's due

In a category full of subscriptions, ScreenZen charges nothing, and it doesn't behave like a free product. The delay lengths are adjustable per app, the daily limits are real, and scheduled free periods acknowledge something most blockers pretend away: there are times when scrolling is fine. That flexibility is rare and worth respecting.

For a lot of people, a well-tuned delay is enough. The five seconds of enforced waiting drains the impulse, the open never happens, and the habit thins out. If that describes your experience with ScreenZen, there's no reason to read further — you have a working system that costs nothing.

When free stops working

But there's a pattern ScreenZen users will recognize, because it's the pattern of every self-imposed gate: you become the person who bypasses your own delays. You set the timer, and then you sit through it. You extend the delay, and you sit through that too, thumb hovering, mildly annoyed at past-you. The delay was supposed to be a moment of reflection; it's become a loading screen.

This isn't weakness. A delay is a negotiation between you and an app whose feed has been optimized, test by test, to win negotiations. Once you're through the gate, the Reels are exactly as chained, the recommendations exactly as tuned. The delay rationed your entry; it changed nothing about what you entered. Removing the surface has no equivalent bypass, because there's nothing to wait out. When the Reels tab isn't there, sitting patiently doesn't bring it back. That's the structural difference, and it's why surface removal holds up on the days when discipline doesn't — the days a doomscroll would otherwise have found you.

   Open your platforms inside Sociano

   Sign in through each platform's official login — Sociano never sees or stores your passwords. Instagram and YouTube have the strongest support, with X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit included. Feed surfaces are removed during every session.

   Keep limits as a backstop

   Sociano tracks daily and 7-day usage and offers optional per-platform limits. They matter less once the feeds are gone, but they're there — and the optional native-app blocking, built on Apple's Screen Time framework, closes the muscle-memory route to the native apps.

An honest recommendation

Choose Sociano as the default when you want a system that still works after a pause has become routine. It removes the feed, preserves useful features, and can optionally block the native apps so the calm route is the easy route.
