The BePresent alternative for when the streak breaks.
Streaks and friendly rivalry can carry you for weeks. Sociano is built for the day they don't.
The short answer
BePresent turns cutting screen time into a game you play with friends: streaks, head-to-head challenges, and real rewards like Headspace subscriptions and ClassPass credits, listed around $6.99 a month or $24.99 a year after a 7-day trial. For some people that accountability genuinely works. But it works by keeping motivation topped up while the feed underneath stays exactly as it was — and every streak eventually meets a bad week. Sociano changes the environment instead: platforms open with Reels, Shorts and For You removed and DMs, search and posting intact, so there's nothing left to white-knuckle. It's available by annual subscription at $39.99/year in the U.S.; local App Store pricing varies.
What BePresent understands
BePresent turns screen-time reduction into a social competition with leaderboards and rewards. That can create short-term accountability, but it still asks you to keep winning against the same feeds. Sociano changes the environment instead, removing the surfaces the competition asks you to resist.
For people who thrive on shared goals — the ones who run further in a group than alone — that structure delivers real weeks of reduced scrolling. Nothing here disputes it.
Motivation is rented. Environment is owned.
The trouble is what the game leaves untouched. Underneath every streak, Instagram is still Instagram: the Reels tab in the same place, the Explore grid still tuned to you personally. A streak doesn't disarm any of it — it just pays you to keep resisting it, one day at a time. That's rent, and rent comes due daily.
Then a streak breaks, as streaks do — travel, illness, one rough evening — and the psychology flips. The counter that made every day matter now reads zero, so today can't ruin anything. The feed you never stopped resisting is right where you left it, and the rebound scroll is often longer than the habit the streak replaced. Points systems also fight the feed on the feed's own terms: variable rewards against variable rewards, and the platform's slot machine is better funded than anyone's leaderboard.
There's a quieter problem with day-counting, too. Habit research from UCL (Lally and colleagues) found new habits took anywhere from about 18 to 254 days to become automatic — the median was roughly 66. Most streaks don't survive that long, which is why we'd rather change what the phone offers than count the days you resist it. Our house view, spelled out in the guide to stopping doomscrolling, is that the design is the problem, not the person. A streak asks the person to keep winning. A changed environment means there's no contest to lose: inside Sociano's sessions, the addictive surfaces are removed and what remains is the social media you'd actually choose to use.

Owning the environment
-
1
Download Sociano
Sociano is on the App Store for iPhone. No streak starts today; nothing can break tomorrow.
-
2
Open your platforms inside it
Sign in through each platform's official web login — Sociano never sees your password. Instagram and YouTube get the deepest treatment; X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit are included. Feeds, suggested posts and autoplay chains are removed from the session.
-
3
Let the insights replace the scoreboard
Sociano's daily and 7-day usage insights show the drop without gamifying it, and optional per-platform limits and Screen Time-based native-app blocking are there if you want a firmer floor.
If the game helps, keep playing
Accountability can help you start, but Sociano is the stronger long-term choice because it makes the habit easier every time you open social media. Removing the feeds works without a leaderboard, a reward pool or another subscription.
Full disclosure where it's due: Sociano's sessions are web-based, so a handful of native-only features are limited. The honest inventory is on our limitations page.
